Hi
I’m getting in touch to let you know about a Greens Member’s Survey we are running on the issue of coercive control.
The Queensland Government has introduced a Bill that will establish a stand-alone offence of coercive control, in part in response to the death of Hannah Clarke and her children.
We are surveying members to help inform the Queensland Greens position in Queensland Parliament on coercive control. On the survey page we’ve included some background information on what the Bill would do in simple terms and summaries of stakeholder’s views on criminalising coercive control.
Have your say
In the past, the Queensland Greens have put on the public record our concerns around the establishment of a stand-alone offence of coercive control, highlighting the voices of a number of stakeholders.
However, many stakeholders are in support of establishing a stand-alone coercive control offence, and public sentiment is broadly in support of this as well.
The Greens don’t currently have the numbers in the Queensland Parliament to force more investment in primary prevention, frontline services, first responder training out of the government, or any amendments to the Bill. We will be faced with the decision as to whether we support or oppose the Bill as it is. Take the Member’s survey and let us know what position you’d like the Queensland Greens to take.
The survey will run until midnight Tuesday 14 November 2023. We will then close off the survey and discuss the results in an online Member’s only briefing at 6pm-7.30pm on Wednesday 15 November.
Thanks for taking the time to share your views and help inform the Queensland Greens’ position on this important issue.
In solidarity,
Amy MacMahon MP
