Caloundra Greens invites you to join us and Ken Mewburn, member of Take Action for Pumicestone Passage, for a social and educational cruise on our beautiful Passage 27 June 2021.

The cruise will leave at 1.30pm sharp (please arrive 15 minutes early at 1.15pm to board and be ready to depart) from Pelican Waters Jetty, and continue for 2 hours returning around 3.30pm.  If able, please bring a share plate and some money for a glass of wine and a raffle. Caloundra Greens will have food to share as well, so if you are not able to bring a share plate please just bring yourself!

Ken Mewburn and Take Action for Pumicestone Passage (TAPP) have been advocating for the Pumicestone Passage against the environmental and ecological impact of future development in our region.

Mr Mewburn says that many in the community are concered about what the effect of future development woudl have on the Passage. "Great community involvement and one developer's approach to working with the community has seen significant changes to original plans to address environmental and ecological concerns" he said. "If Caloundra South area is allowed to develop unchecked there will be critical issues arise, not just in overdevelopment but the impact on the sea-life and birds living in the Passage and its surrounds".

The area south of Aura, Bells Creek, remains under threat of development proposals. It is a critical area that cannot be developed. This cruise is a great opportunity for local people to gain an insight to the Passage, what it is, and its uniqueness. And of course why it needs to be protected.

Jody Aked, a researcher at the New Economics Foundation's Centre for Wellbeing said "as a society we hugely underplay the importance of natural environments on happiness, not just the awe at a beautiful view, but the de-stressing effects it provides".

So come along and bring a friend.  Numbers are strictly limited (due to the boat size) so register NOW.

All funds will go to the Caloundra Branch of Queensland Greens.
