The year is 2021 and after more than a century of progress, gendered violences is still rife in Australia -- inside parliament, in our homes and in the streets.

It’s clear that women have the right to be free from violence and harassment, and should have the freedom to choose what to do with their bodies. We need to dismantle the culture that has allowed so many to get away with so much for so long.

Join Senator Larissa Waters and hear from frontline workers to learn how women from all walks of life are working in Townsville to make their peers safe. We have confirmed guest speakers from local organisations the Women's Centre and NQ Domestic Violence Resource Centre.

Last year, the Sex Discrimination Commissioner released the damning Respect@Work report, which found that workplace sexual harassment is “prevalent and pervasive” and that most people who experience sexual harassment never report it. Overwhelmingly, the Commission heard that gender inequality was a key driver of harassment.

So how do we build on the achievements of generations of campaigners for equality to make sure women from all backgrounds, ethnicities, abilities and sexual identities are safe, valued and treated as equals in private and public life?

This is a public event. All are welcome to attend.
