A social dinner for friends, supporters and members of the Greens in Brisbane's South West suburbs: to build social links; to raise local Branch funds for our climate advocacy; and to share ideas on how we can act locally to achieve that other possible world. New-comers most welcome!
With the "predicted catastrophe" of our summer bushfires, the heartland of the struggle for effective climate action moves to the suburbs of Australia's larger cities.
Rejecting despair, more and more are now stepping even beyond the lifestyle changes of their household. They're joining the movement that's pushing our leaders to serious action. Clarity descends: unless we act now - with urgency and ambition - the prospects for our children's children are dire.
The political duopoly of the major parties offers only disappointment. Their leaders show scant interest in transitioning our economy to embrace the opportunities of sustainable and renewable energy technologies.
In such a vacuum of leadership, the momentum for change must go beyond the slide to complacency, and find traction within the 'burbs.
To play our part, South West Brisbane Greens invite our neighbours to join us in conversation.
We need to build links locally to ensure these well-founded fears and concerns are heard. We need our elected representatives - in local, state and federal governments - to stop shirking from the task, and rather to initiate programs to ensure this transition of our economy is their first priority.
Jonathan Sri, is the Greens Councillor in Brisbane's Gabba Ward and is a thought leader nationally on how we foment this transition. Jono will offer us some of his thinking: (1) on the changes needed; (2) on how we can bring momentum to the debate; and (3) will invite comments and suggestions from all those present to contribute to our discussion.
Whilst building local connections amongst us, this dinner is also a fundraising event for South West Brisbane Greens. Tickets are $20 per person or $15 concession / unwaged.
Don't miss out: Venue size means we can manage a maximum of 40 participants. Tickets may sell quickly.
