Gold Coast rents are out of control. They've doubled over the past 5 years. Our young people can't afford to move out of home. Working families that make this city run can't make ends meet.The City of Gold Coast Council and Mayor Tom Tate have allowed this to happen.
The council should act to make rents more affordable on the Gold Coast. They have the power to freeze the rent for the next two years. They could create a new rates category for properties that increase the rent and charge that category 650% rates. This would put a stop to rent increases for the duration of the program, allowing two years for wages to catch up.
