We are delighted to invite you to our 7th annual Queensland Greens Iftar.
This year’s event takes place against a backdrop of angst for many in our community as the world witnesses the humanitarian catastrophe continuing to unfold in Gaza. It's more important than ever for our communities to come together this Ramadan, to share food, stories, and support each other.
Our speakers will have a discussion on the topic of the future of Palestine. You'll hear from:
- Deputy Leader of the Australian Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi
- Greens candidate for Brisbane City Council Mayor Jonathan Sriranganathan
- Diaspora Palestinian writer and researcher Jamal Nabulsi
- Leading member of Justice for Palestine Magan-djin Remah Naji
- Sameer Ellagta Palestinian Community Leader Sameer Ellagta
Doors will open at 5pm with a room available for prayers and some light refreshments to break the fast before dinner. The event will formally start from 5:45pm and conclude by 8pm. Guests are encouraged to stay after dinner to mingle and meet their local Greens representatives and council candidates.
The event is free, however we will have a cap on attendees, so please register below to avoid disappointment.
The Palestinian and Muslim communities in Brisbane are working together with The QLD Charity & Welfare Association (TAQWA) to financially help and support the Palestinian families who are coming from Gaza to Brisbane and QLD. Donations can be made to TAQWA directly at the Iftar event, or to their website here: https://taqwa.org.au/
Event Accessibility: This event will be indoors in a wheelchair accessible hall. The event is family friendly and a kids' corner will be provided.
Getting to the venue: There is free parking on-site. Public transport does not directly service the venue, but both a train-stop (Salisbury) and bus-stop could be used to facilitate a pick-up for carpooling nearby.
