Cooper Branch chamber concert series

With the dual aims of supporting our local arts scene and raising branch funds, the Cooper branch is hosting a series of chamber concerts.

One of our favourite groups and long term supporters of our concerts, Black Square Quartet presents 

Five Quick-Tempered Dances 

Black Square Quartet was founded in 2018. The quartet aims to challenge and inspire audiences with daring & innovative repertoire choices. Strong advocates of new & Australian music, they bring an exciting new perspective to classical music.

The quartet members  of the Brisbane based quartet are Camille Barry (violin), Mike Patterson (violins and string arrangements), Charlotte Burbrook de Vere (viola), and Dan Curro (cello). 

Black Square Quartet will present an inspired concert programme of contemporary music for string quartet. The concert is titled 'Five Quick-Tempered Dances' - named after Brisbane composer Thomas Green's second String Quartet, a work that BSQ commissioned during Covid. Additional works will include 'Voodoo Dolls' by Jessie Montgomery, as well as a brand-new work composed by BSQ's very own violinist Mike Patterson. The concert will conclude with an inspired arrangement of Duke Ellington's 'Blue Bubbles' by Brisbane-born and Sydney based composer and musicologist, Philip Eames. The unifying theme interwoven throughout the programme is "music inspired by dance.”

All tickets include refreshments on the deck after the concert.
