We’re paying more for almost everything, yet those price increases aren’t going to increased wages for workers, they're going towards record profits for the private sector. Inflation is on the rise and real wages are going backwards. The rental vacancy rate in Mackay is less than one percent and rents just keep going up. For those with a mortgage, successive interest rate hikes are pushing more and more into financial stress.
It doesn't have to be this way.
Join Larissa Waters, Greens Senator for Queensland for a community forum and discussion on the housing and cost of living crisis in Mackay. This event is open to anyone keen to discuss how we got here and how to remove the barriers to fixing this crisis. In a rich country like ours everyone should have a safe, affordable place to call home and the resources they need to live a good life.
We look forward to seeing you there on Thursday 21 September, 6-8pm, at the Mackay Conservation Group (Environment Centre), 156 Wood Street, Mackay.
