A Gold Coast community forum on housing, homelessness and renters' rights.

Housing is a human right, but we have a growing housing and homelessness crisis on the Gold Coast and right across Queensland. While property investors and the banks cash in, people are sleeping rough. Our housing system is broken. Let’s fix it.

Please join Senator Larissa Waters, the Greens lead Senate candidate Penny Allman-Payne in conversation with Gold Coast community leaders fighting for housing equality, renter’s rights and a secure home for all in their neighbourhoods.

Around 300,000 people will be homeless at some stage this year, including growing numbers of women and children and older women seeking housing and homelessness support services.  The waiting list for social housing in Queensland has blown out to over 50,000 people, including over 15,000 children, yet the Queensland government’s Housing Strategy will only deliver 450 new homes each year.

Federal government tax policies deliver millions in subsidies to property investors and nowhere near enough for public housing or programs to lift students, carers, parents and pensioners out of poverty.  It’s time we made things fairer.

This is a free, relaxed and friendly event that is open to everyone - you don’t have to know anything about politics to join us!

For Covid safety, please register if you intend to join us in person, some light refreshments will be provided. We’ll also be broadcasting this event on Zoom, register to receive the meeting link.
