Pauline Hanson thinks there’s a "transgender insurgency"… so let’s give her one! She is spreading the same hate-filled messages she’s been selling for decades; Islamophobia, transphobia, racism and a protection racket for fossil fuels. She deals in hatred, fear and division. The Greens are here to fight against Pauline’s hatred and to back in the trans community, now and always. Join our Campaign: https://greens.org.au/campaigns/trans-rights-are-human-rights We are having a social get together to discuss how we can get involved, practical ways we can get involved in politics, and advocate within the community for the rights of all LGBTIQA+ folks.

Event Description

Pauline says there's a Transgender Insurgency. Fine. Let's have one.

This is the Perth launch of WA Greens support for all LGBTIQA+SB folks in the community, especially our Gender Diverse and Transgender folks.

We are supporting this grass roots initiative led by our Pride working group as a State-wide series of regional catch-ups. They will follow this format as we roll out across WA, so come see how it works and learn how to run or join your local groups.

When: Saturday 24 October 10AM - 12PM

Where: The Riff, Ground Floor 45 St Georges Terrace Perth

How: It is a 5-minute walk from both the Elizabeth Quay and Perth Underground stations, and also sits along the St Georges Terrace transit corridor, which is serviced by free Central Area Transit (CAT) and standard buses. While there is no dedicated accessible parking spot directly on-site, paid parking is available under the nearby Council House, which connects via the flat pathways of the Supreme Court Gardens.

What to expect:

  • Welcome and community agreements: a quick check-in on safety and respect so everyone can relax.

  • What's happening right now: a short plain language briefing on the latest issues facing Trans and Gender diverse folks in WA.

  • How politics affects us: safety, healthcare, schools, housing, discrimination, the real stuff not the theory.

  • What the Greens are doing: Locally, State and Federal, and where are the gaps.

  • How to get involved: clear, no pressure ways to get involved, advocate and volunteer to make a difference.

  • Community art-making: bring or make art for the pride march float. Opt-in only and anonymous contributions welcome.

  • Q&A - a chance to ask questions, raise concerns and connect with other passionate community members.

Quiet space available and you do not need to know about politics to come; you just need to show up!

The main entrance features step-free, wheelchair-accessible access at the ground level. There is lift/elevator access to navigate all floors of the facility, and the venue is equipped with fully accessible, designated toilets.

Light catering will be provided along with resources and information on Greens Policies on LGBTIQA+SB folks.
