Protect Cockburn Sound

AUKUS and Westport are two huge projects that will change Cockburn Sound forever- but shamefully, state and federal Labor governments are still pushing forward with both of these before proper environmental or community impact assessments have been completed.

Join WA Greens upper house MP Sophie McNeill and a panel of experts and community members to find out more about what the impact of these projects will be and what we need to do to protect Cockburn Sound.

Panellists include:

Dawn Jecks: WA born and bred, and a proud Rockingham resident for over 30 years. Dawn first stepped into local politics to help stop the destruction of Point Peron—our own “Kings Park”—and won. Now, they are working to save our little penguin colony from extinction. City of Rockingham Councillor, first elected in 2021 and re-elected in 2025 for a further four-year term.

Mia Pepper: Mia is currently the Campaigns Director at the Conservation Council of WA. Mia has a demonstrated history of working in the environmental sector with policy and research expertise.

Leyland Campbell: Leyland is the Operations Manager at Recfish West. Leyland is responsible for ensuring Recfishwest’s day-to-day business activities are running smoothly and providing the best possible outcomes for the State’s estimated 750,000 recreational fishers. Fishing has always been a passion for Leyland, and he finds the challenge of helping to protect the rights of the recreational fishing community and improving fishing experiences to be very rewarding.
